HUNTING LICENCE GUIDELINES

Hunting Licenses and Permits in South Africa

  • The rifle rental rate is 50 USD per day, ammo included. All rifles on hire have good optics that are suitable for the calibre and the area/s that we hunt, and some have silencers.
  • Shotguns also rate at 50 USD to rent, but the shells will be paid for separately.
  • SOUTH AFRICAN FIREARMS IMPORTATION POLICY: Visitors bringing firearms into South Africa for hunting purposes must fill in form SAP520: Temporary Import Application.
  • We advise our clients to do this 2-3 months ahead of arrival and to use our association – PHASA or a similar company. You will receive your pre-approved permits prior to arriving in South Africa, which will make arrival and customs clearance much less stressful.
  • GUIDELINES FOR COMPLETING FORM SAP520 – The form itself is available at saps.gov.za or under Doc’s on this web page. Fill in the form using black ink beforehand. Please note that not all sections of the form apply. Note Section D temporary import or export permit, Section E- 1 25.4, Section G, Section I as requested, and Section J. The form should be left unsigned as this will need to be done in front of the Police Officer.
  • You need to show proof that the rifle belongs to you, so bring proof of ownership. The U.S. customs registration Form 4457 you obtained prior to departure can be used for this. Your customs form must be for the year that you come hunting. Check the right hand corner for future expiration date.
  • You need to get a letter of invitation to come on a hunt from your PH prior to traveling to South Africa. For the invitation letter from hunting outfitter – see under the docs section.
